James Vincent McMorrow – Gone

Square

James Vincent McMorrow hits us with his bold and powerful R&B-inspired single, Gone. Gone starts with a quiet contemplative vibe that slowly builds into a crescendo of energy. We’re greeted with echoing haunting lyrics, head-swaying rhythms, and dance-inducing heavy tribal beats.

The song is about the ‘disintegration of relationships’. McMorrow expands, “In my case, the disintegration of my relationship with myself. No song or lyric I’ve ever written has come as close to this one at capturing how I feel about life, how I hear it, my fear of it, my obsession with it, my belligerent belief that I can control it, my quiet acknowledgment in the middle of the night that I will never control a single thing. And there’s nothing wrong with any of it. There’s absolute beauty in embracing the chaos and the decay. I know I was exhausted pretending everything was all right.”

Gone somehow finds a way of creeping in and pulling you out from the inside. By the end of the song, you’ll probably find yourself dancing or walking around menacingly in a circle like a fool (watch the video). It seeps in and just takes over.

Could it be anymore perfect? I don’t think so. Watch the making of the incredible video here.
