The Roots are undoubtedly one of the greatest yet underrated hip hop groups to ever exist. Consistently proving that they are ahead of their time with their eclectic and diverse sound, their passion and love of music shine through in every perfectly produced track.
Members, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson have served as the founding fathers and foundation of the group since 1987, and for good reason. Black Thought’s cunning and controlled lyricism as an MC have many in the hip hop community arguing him to be the G.O.A.T., while Questlove’s drumming deftness serves as the backbone to every song. This collaboration of genius has proven to endure the test of time, making the two members the only constant in a band that is ever-changing.
Here are my top ten best “The Roots” tracks.
